The New York Lottery and Time Warner Cable’s Capital News 9 today announced an agreement that awards News 9 with the exclusive rights to air all Lottery drawings in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Designated Market Area (DMA).
The six-year agreement will begin August 3, 2009. The 24-hour news channel will show all drawings including: the Daily Numbers and Win 4 each afternoon, Take 5 weeknights (M-F), Lotto (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and Mega Millions (Tuesdays and Fridays).
This partnership marks the first time the NY Lottery has partnered with a cable channel over traditional broadcast affiliates and it’s the first time a 24-hour news channel has been awarded with the drawings.
“The NY Lottery is thrilled to be back on the air in the Capital Region,” said NY Lottery Director Gordon Medenica. “This exciting new partnership with Capital News 9 will allow our players to once again view their favorite Lottery draw team members calling out their numbers and offering them the chance to win everyday.” “Being a 24/7 news channel it’s only natural for us to offer this information and is yet another reason to watch Capital News 9, you just can’t get this kind of content from Phone Company or Satellite TV,” said Steve Paulus, Regional Vice President of the TWC News Division.
Capital News 9 will also be exploring an interactive platform that would allow viewers to get the lottery results instantly using their remote control and testing begins later next month on this capability.
The New York Lottery contributed nearly $2.54 billion in fiscal year 2008-09 to help support education in New York State, over 12 percent of total state education funding to local school districts. The Lottery's ongoing commitment to education also includes the awarding of more than 1,100 Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) Scholarships annually to high school students pursuing their higher education in New York State. Since the programs inception in 1999, the Lottery has awarded more than 10,300 scholarships. The New York Lottery continues to be North America's largest and most profitable Lottery, earning over $36.7 billion in education support statewide since its founding over 40 years ago.
