Schenectady – An upper Hudson Valley area resident is ringing in the New Year with a Kong-sized win as the newest New York Lottery millionaire.
Jie Lin of Kingston purchased his winning $8 million King Kong Instant game ticket on January 1st hoping to start off the New Year a little richer. The thirty-six year old chef couldn’t be happier since he won the top prize on the popular ticket, the largest ever offered on any New York Lottery Instant game. Lin said he typically purchases one lottery ticket every week. He plans to buy a home and a new car with his winnings and then invest the rest.
A little over a month ago, the New York Lottery announced it was going Hollywood and launched a unique, first of its kind partnership with Universal Studios for the remake of the famous King Kong movie. This unique partnership had two Kong-size components. The first component was King Kong Millions which concluded with a drawing on December 5th at the top of the Empire State Building. The second component was the release of the hottest new scratch-off ticket with an $8 million top prize, named after King Kong, the eighth wonder of the world. The King Kong scratch-off has become the fastest selling $10 ticket ever offered by the New York Lottery.
"The New York Lottery, the largest lottery in the country and the sixth largest in the world, partnered with Universal Studios, a giant in the motion picture industry, to bring King Kongback to New Yorkers," said New York Lottery Director Nancy A. Palumbo. "This partnership has been a tremendous success. Not only has it created great sales for the New York Lottery’s King Kong games, increasing revenue for education this fiscal year, but it has also generated an enormous amount of buzz for the King Kong movie which opened in theaters last month."
The King Kong special limited edition Instant game ticket is a $10 ticket with 15 chances to win up to $8 million. Overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 4.44. Lin’s lucky ticket was purchased at the Petro Sunoco located at 895 Ulster Avenue in Kingston. His $8 million prize will be paid in annual installments of $320,000 before required tax withholdings.
Maxwell was one of 5 second prize winners of $1 million on the King Kong Millions jackpot game. He purchased his winning ticket at Stewart’s Shops located at 856 Route 212 in Saugerties where the press conference announcing both millionaires was held today.
Since its inception in 1967, the New York Lottery has generated more than $27 billion in revenue to help support education statewide, including a record $2 billion in fiscal year 2004-2005 on revenues of $6.27 billion.
