Schenectady, NY- Sixty-year-old Peter Walsh of East Arlington, Vermont is the latest winner of the $1,000,000 top prize on the New York Lottery’s Silver Spectacular instant game. Walsh, a semi-retired Chauffer, said his job played a role in his big win.
“I drove to New York to pick up a couple of customers,” said Walsh. “Along the way, I stopped at a Hess station to buy a Lottery ticket. I drove home a happy man,” Walsh laughed.
An avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, Walsh said he plans to “ride a lot more.”
Walsh purchased his Silver Spectacular ticket on April 16, 2008 at the Hess Mart on Hoosick Street in Troy. He claimed it the next day at the Lottery’s Customer Service Center in Schenectady.
Walsh said he planned to use his $1,000,000 to prepare for retirement. “I’m not saying I will retire tomorrow, but soon.”
The $1,000,000 top prize on the Silver Spectacular instant game pays out as $50,000 a year for 20 years, less required tax withholdings. Walsh’s net check will total $34,075 per year.
