How to Play NY Powerball
It’s super simple to play Powerball in New York, whether you go out to a local lottery retailer, or stay home and pick your numbers online or through the lottery app. This page provides an easy guide covering any way you might want to play.
Playing at a Retailer
- 1Head out to your local lottery retailer. Powerball is available across the 15,000 lottery agent locations, including grocery stores, gas stations, and newsstands.
- 2Take a playslip and pick your numbers. You must select five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls, and then select a single digit between 1 and 26 for the red Powerball. Use a black or blue pen or pencil for this, or your selections may be rejected.
- 3Use Quick Pick if unsure. Can’t decide which numbers to play? Quick Pick can make the decision for you. Simply select the option on the playslip and hand in the playslip.
- 4Watch the draw and enjoy. All that’s left to do now is enjoy the Powerball draw and see if you’ve won. You can find out what prizes are on offer at our Odds and Prizes page.
Cost and Add-Ons
In New York, Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. The cost increases depending on what extra features you add to your ticket.
- Power Play: You can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5, or even 10 times with Power Play. It costs an extra $1, and just requires you to mark the Power Play option on your playslip.
How to Win Cash Prizes with NY Powerball
You win the jackpot by matching all five main numbers and the Powerball. There is a guaranteed minimum jackpot worth $20 million, and prizes start from matching just the Powerball number.
There are nine different prize tiers available in the main draw, and a further eight when you include Power Play. There is no jackpot cap in place, so the top prize can continue to roll over until it is won.
You have one year from the date of the draw to claim your prize.
