Take 5 is one of New York’s most popular draw games – simple to play, fast to check, and offering a chance at some great cash prizes. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.
Draw Times
There are two exciting Take 5 drawings every day of the week, Midday and Evening drawings. The Midday drawing is held at 2:30 PM ET and the Evening draw is held at 10:30 PM ET. Ticket sales close just before the draw times, so make sure to grab your ticket before the cutoff if you want in on the draw.

There are several ways to play NY Take 5. Whether you choose to do it through a retailer, a lottery website, or a lottery app, we have you covered.
Playing at a Retailer
- 1Visit a New York Lottery retailer: Head down to any official lottery kiosk, whether it’s a gas station, a 7-Eleven, grocery store or newsstand. There are 15,000 vendors across the Empire State, so take your pick.
- 2Choose Your Numbers: Pick five numbers from 1 to 39 on a playslip. Mark them clearly using a black or blue pen, or even pencil. Whatever you do, don’t use red ink, as it could result in the ticket being rejected.
- 3Use Quick Pick if you prefer: If you’re new to the game or don’t know which numbers to play, use Quick Pick to let the computer randomly select your numbers for you.
- 4Add Instant Win (optional): For an additional $1, you can enter the Instant Win feature, which gives you a chance to win right at the point of purchase with prizes up to $500.
- 5Decide Number of Draws to Play: You can enter a single drawing, or play up to seven consecutive draws using the numbers you've chosen. If you like your selection, you can use it again and again.
- 6Get Your Ticket: Once you’ve made your selections, insert the playslip into the lottery terminal or hand it to the clerk, pay for your ticket, and keep it safe until the draw.
Playing Online Through a Lottery Courier

‘Play It Again’ lets you play your numbers all over again. All you have to do is hand in a Take 5 ticket from the last 30 days and you can get an identical play for the next available drawing.
